Our third annual Climate Positive Energy Research Day project showcase and networking event is now SOLD OUT.

This highly-anticipated event will be hosted in-person only at the University of Toronto, and will feature an opening keynote session, research presentations, and opportunities to network with professionals from various industries. Keynote Speaker

Faisal KaziFaisal Kazi, President and Chief Executive Officer, Siemens Canada

Faisal Kazi is the President and CEO of Siemens Canada. Mr. Kazi is responsible for leading the overall strategic management, direction and leadership of Siemens activities in Canada. In addition to his role as President and CEO, Mr. Kazi is responsible for the leadership of the Smart Infrastructure business and serves as a board member of multiple Siemens affiliates in Canada.

Dr. Fiona A. Miller is a Professor of Health Policy and holds the Chair in Health Management Strategies in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

 

Ian HamiltonIan Hamilton, UCL Energy Institute, University College London

Ian is Professor of Energy, Environment and Health whose research is focused on the nexus of energy, environment, and health. Ian’s research in the built environment is at the intersection of climate, energy and health. He is also a CPE Fellow.

 

Nelson LeeNelson Lee, Dalla Lana School of Public Health

Professor Nelson Lee is an infectious diseases physician who has been deeply involved in the research on emerging infectious diseases, epidemics and pandemics for almost two decades. His research is referenced by international health authorities, contributing to the prevention and control of epidemic viral diseases including coronavirus and influenza.

Dr. Blake Poland is a professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH), and Director of the Collaborative Specialization in Community Development.

Ali HooshyarAli Hooshyar, Electrical and Computer Engineering

Ali Hooshyar joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2018. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Centre for Applied Power Electronics, University of Toronto, in 2015. His research interests include protection and control of renewable energy systems and smart grids.

 

Fireside Chat: Youth Voices, Greener Choices

Grace NosekGrace Nosek, University of Toronto Scarborough

Grace Nosek is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto Scarborough working on youth civic engagement and climate action. She is also the Founder of the Climate Hub at the University of British Columbia, a novel, hybrid academic entity where full-time university staff collaborate with student directors to lead wide-ranging climate justice research and action initiatives.

Sharene Shafie is Project Lead, Outreach & Engagement Environment & Climate Division, at the City of Toronto.

 

Alison MountzAlison Mountz, University of Toronto Scarborough

Alison is Associate Vice-Principal Research–Strategic Initiatives and provides leadership for strategic research and innovation initiatives at U of T Scarborough, including the creation of new research institutes.

Olivier TrescasesOlivier Trescases, Electrical & Computer Engineering

Olivier Trescases (BASc, MASc, PhD) received his PhD degree in electrical engineering at the University of Toronto in 2007. Before joining the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor in 2009, he worked as a Concept Engineer and mixed-signal IC Designer in Infineon Technologies, Villach, Austria, focusing on safety-critical automotive applications.

 

Khandker Nurul HabibKhandker Nurul Habib, Civil and Mineral Engineering

Professor Khandker Nurul Habib develops mathematical, behavioural models to ascertain how human beings currently move from one location to another, and the multiple ways in which people respond to changes in the urban infrastructure.

 

Gisele AzimiGisele Azimi, Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Material Science and Engineering

Professor Azimi’s research lies at the intersection of “Process Engineering”, “Electrochemistry” and “Materials Science.” She strives to enable sustainability in terms of energy and global warming as well as materials criticality.

 

Cara ClairmanCara Clairman, Plug’n Drive

Cara Clairman is the founder and CEO of Plug’n Drive, a leader in Canada’s Electric Vehicle (EV) industry.  She is also the proud recipient of the 2017 WIRE Woman of the Year Award.

Hisham Omara is a visionary utility executive with over 15 years of progressive experience in the electricity industry across the globe (EU, UK, Middle East, US and Canada), encompassing grid modernization, DSO functionalities, and digital transformation strategies. His career is characterized by adept leadership in complex project delivery, IT/OT integration, and cutting-edge planning techniques aimed at advancing utility sector innovation.

 

Bonnie Hiltz​​​​Bonnie Hiltz, Sussex Strategy

As the Vice President and Energy Practice Lead, Bonnie delivers results for clients in the areas of electricity markets and decarbonization. Spanning with over two decades of experience in energy supply, including renewable energy and storage, and works closely with clients, government and its agencies to ensure smart, timely policies that get projects built.

 

Payam ZahediPayam Zahedi, University of Toronto Mississauga
