iSPEAC Seminar: A Transdisciplinary Journey for Understanding Water Security in the Saskatchewan River Delta
February 20 @ 11:00 am - 11:30 am

Decisions on climate change adaptation and mitigation often reflect the upstream-downstream dynamics that challenge water security globally. This talk draws on 14 years of research exploring diverse knowledge tools to expand the options available to communities facing climate change.
Our interdisciplinary approach integrates social science, biophysical science, and artistic expression, each offering unique yet complementary perspectives. We have used surveys, interviews, focus groups, Q-methodology, and experimental decision labs to examine perceptions of climate risk. Hydrological, hydraulic, and water resource modeling, along with field-based observations, such as water and sediment chemistry, isotopes, and camera traps, have helped measure physical changes over time. To enhance engagement, we have employed paintings, animations, analogue models, mixed-media installations, films, and forum theatre. Our findings highlight how science, art, and deep knowledge, whether traditional or land-based, offer complementary ways to understand environmental complexity. Our next step is integrating these tools within a design-thinking and applied theatre framework to support place-based climate adaptation and mitigation.
Dr. Graham Strickert and Dr. Lori Bradford will be hosted by Dr. Irena Creed for this iSPEAC Seminar.
This is a hybrid event and will occur both in-person and online.
