About the Panelists
Joseph Arcuri, CPA, CA
Joseph Arcuri has served as the Chief Financial Officer at NRStor since 2019, a leading company in battery storage known for deploying Canada’s largest battery project. He is also the Chair of the Audit Committee at BioSyent, a role he has held since July 2018. Previously, Joseph was the Executive Vice President of Operations and Finance at St. Joseph Communications, CFO at GlassBOX Television, President at AOL Canada, and Vice President at Bell. Joseph began his career at PwC and is a trained Chartered Accountant from the University of Toronto.
Tom Chapman
Tom Chapman, an Energy Economist and Electricity Policy Expert, has served as Principal and Office Director at The Brattle Group Toronto since January 2023. He is known for his leadership in executive roles and his impact on public policy and electricity market reforms. Before joining Brattle, he was the Senior Manager of Wholesale Market Development at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) from December 2013 to December 2022. Tom also has experience in academia, having taught as a lecturer on Electricity Markets at Toronto Metropolitan University. Additionally, he contributed to the Centre for Urban Energy at TMU, focusing on sustainable solutions to urban energy challenges. His early career includes strategic roles at Ontario Ministry of Energy, XAVi Consulting, Henwood, and Omega Partners. Tom holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics and a BSc in Economics from Swansea University.
Mark Winfield, Ph.D.
Mark Winfield is a Professor of Environmental and Urban Change at York University. He co-chairs the Faculty’s Sustainable Energy Initiative and coordinates the Joint Master of Environmental Studies/Juris Doctor program with Osgoode Hall Law School. Previously, Mark served as the Program Director at the Pembina Institute and the Director of Research at the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and Government, an MA in Political Science, and a B.A. in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Toronto. He is also the co-editor of the book “Sustainable Energy Transitions in Canada” (UBC Press 2023).
Shatha Qaqish-Clavering, Ph.D
Shatha is Executive Director of U of T’s Climate Positive Energy initiative. Shatha is a strategic leader who brings over a decade of experience working in the clean technology, sustainability, and innovation eco-systems. She has experience managing large scale projects including an $85 million government grant program to drive innovative climate change related technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
