Toronto Association for Business and Economics – Path to Net Zero Series: Modernizing the Electricity Grid

TABE (In-Person Luncheon) – Path to Net Zero Series: Modernizing the Electricity Grid

Over the course of 2024/25, Toronto Association for Business and Economics (TABE) is continuing its Path to Net Zero Series where we discuss dealing with climate change through transitioning towards net zero carbon emissions.

The first event will deal with modernizing the electricity grid. As energy demand is increasingly satisfied through electricity generation and improvements in energy efficiency, the question arises how electricity transmission and distribution systems adapt to reliably connect generation and demand in light of challenges from climate change. What are the economic opportunities, challenges, and risks as we modernize the grid to support the move towards net zero?

Shatha Qaqish-Clavering (Executive Director, Climate Positive Energy – University of Toronto) will provide a brief overview of the changing grid technology due to climate change and decarbonization before Adonis Yatchew (Professor, Economics – University of Toronto) will present on the resulting economic implications for the transmission and distribution industry.

This event has been organized by Alex Kraas and James Fudurich, members of TABE’s Board of Directors.
