Climate Positive Energy and University of Twente

In honour of Earth Day, Climate Positive Energy is pleased to share updates from its private meeting with delegates from the University of Twente (UT), located in Enschede, Netherlands. CPE hosted UT’s President of the Executive Board, Vinod Subramaniam, and provided updates on multidisciplinary climate research taking place at the University of Toronto. U of T is a leader in research and innovation, with significant impact both locally and globally, and has been named the world’s most sustainable university by the QS World University Rankings for two consecutive years.

CPE and UT discussed their various strengths and research excellence in the areas of artificial intelligence, digital twinning, energy storage, battery technology, modernizing the electrical grid, and the intersection of climate and public health. The conversation also highlighted key areas that CPE should focus on in future interactions with the European Union – for example, exploring research opportunities through Horizon Europe, the world’s largest program for funding research and innovation.

This year’s Earth Day theme is “Our Power, Our Planet,” which calls for people to unite around renewable energy. CPE continues to welcome leaders from around the world, and looks forward to ongoing conversations and knowledge sharing to advance a just transition towards a more sustainable future.
